Feeling tensed and frustrated about the exam results you are getting this first semester? Do not be sad, by changing the way you think about an examination and changing your study habits will definitely help you pass or even ace an examination. Getting nervous for an exam would only get you in trouble, just be calm, relax and review well.

(For civil service exam tutorials, visit MSA.)

If you want some tips for your problem, here are some important reminders that might help you:

Prepare Well

By saying this tip, I did not mean that you should study until the last minute before taking the exam just to review and memorize all of your review materials. What I want to tell you here is you should prepare well in advance and use strategies like using keywords and mnemonics that will help you remember important points that you need.  Cramming is not good because it will only leave you on a state of mental block.

Get enough Sleep

Get a good night’s sleep of about 7 to 8 hours. Avoid staying awake at midnight just to study your lessons. It is still better to add extra hours of sleep than extra hours of review which can only lead you to be sleepy on the exact day of the examination and can take you away from your focus. Even the most successful people like music and sports prodigies have an approximately 9 hours of sleep.

Eating the right food and beverages

Eat protein-rich foods which can lead you to greater mental alertness. Food choices that you can eat on your examination day include nuts, eggs, yogurt and cottage cheese.  A good addition to your breakfast is to include whole-grain cereal with low-fat milk, eggs and toast with jam, porridge or oatmeal.

As for your beverages, water is good enough to make your brain functional.

Exercise

During the examination day, have at least a 30 minute worth of exercise. Bike or jog in the morning, do calisthenics that will definitely help pumping oxygen in your brain.

Don’t Panic

Be calm and focus on the exam at hand. Panicking will just lead you to misunderstanding or even answering the exam without even reading the directions. A great way to avoid panicking is to avoid looking from your watch. Just relax, sit down and plan your answers.

These are the things to do when preparing for an examination. Thanks for reading my post!
